The Other Side of Darkness

I know, perhaps I’m not

The right kind of monster;

I don’t belong to your daily nightmare

Of noise and chalk powder,

Which you cross with your beauty.

I come from Nothing

And night drank my first cry;

My cry called me by name

And my name went lost in the wind.

I’m the darkness hidden

In your blue eyes,

The call of the mermaid

Who plays with your fair hair.

Give up your daily monsters

Made of dust and dumbness;

If you overcome my lips

As red as your fear,

Perhaps you’ll discover

That the other side of darkness

Is Love.
